Appearance: Light brown to brownish-red; characteristic odor; semi-clear liquid; pH: 5.0–7.0

Black tea is the only fully fermented tea among all tea products. It is rich in polyphenols (which, upon fermentation, are transformed into theaflavins, thearubigins, and theabrownins), amino acids, flavonoids, and various minerals—making it a nutrient-dense beverage. Polyphenols are among the most abundant constituents of tea and exhibit potent antioxidant activity, conferring crucial physiological benefits such as antioxidant and skin-lightening effects. Theaflavins, often referred to as “soft gold” in tea, are hallmark bioactive compounds of black tea, known for their antioxidant, lipid-lowering, and anti-inflammatory properties [1].
